My Blog

Last night was the first time that Evelyn actually managed to get herself to sleep!  I have to say, at our 2-month checkup, the pediatrician suggested that I start trying to “put her down while she’s sleepy, but not fully asleep,” and I was pretty skeptical, to say the least.  I tried it a few times, mostly with disastrous results, and resigned myself to the fact that I’d probably still be rocking the kid to sleep when she’s fifteen.

Usually, the pattern is that she nurses, then either lies on the Boppy pillow on my lap or I hold her against chest while I rocking back and forth in the glider for anywhere from 20-60+ minutes.  Last night, this did not seem to be working.  After about 30 minutes, Evy decided that she wanted to be awake and hang out.  Did I mention that it was almost midnight?

At Troy’s suggestion (and with no small amount of reluctance), I put her down in her bed anyways, and even though she was awake, she just kind of chilled out.  No fussing, no crying, nada.  Next time we looked over, she was asleep.  Not only that, but then she proceeded to sleep for a full six hours!  I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this will be an ongoing thing.

Hooray for Sleepytime
